Final year BA (Hons) Fashion Design students have been invited to participate in a live brief with Saville Row streetwear brand clothsurgeon for the third year running.
In 2022 Rav Matharu made history by being the first ever South Asian designer to open the first bespoke streetwear store on the world famous Savile Row. Leeds Arts University awarded Rav with an Honorary Master of Arts degree that same year for his outstanding contributions to fashion and arts. Today, he actively mentors students from the university, offering them invaluable industry experience through clothsurgeon’s internship programme.
To launch the live brief, the third-year students were invited to London to visit clothsurgeon, meet with Rav and to first gain an understanding of the brand. Now they will design a four-outfit Autumn / Winter 2025 collection focused towards men’s, women’s or gender-neutral market. The final collection must include at least one coat or Jacket.
Students will submit at least four pages of visual research, four pages of hand rendered design development, a wellstyled and contemporary illustrated line up of the outfit range and one final illustration of the strongest outfit with technical flats and fabric indications.
The winner of the brief will have the choice of their key garment being made up by the clothsurgeon team, utilising Rav’s fabric store in East London, or a one week internship with Rav at the studio on Savile Row.
10 finalists will be shortlisted and their work will be sent to Rav Matharu for judging. The overall winner will be announced in February 2025.
The winner of last years' project, Millie Connor, is currently on placement at clothsurgeon.
