Andrew is a senior lecturer, year tutor and Leeds Arts University alumni teaching across all levels on the BA (Hons) Fashion Design course. Andrew’s expertise derives from his industry experience in menswear design, fashion enterprise, pattern cutting, garment manufacture & finish and he closely follows Sustainability issues/developments in the global fashion industry and wider context.

Having graduated from Leeds Arts University in 2008, Andrew established his own contemporary fashion label that year and went on to showcase seasonal menswear collections at London Collections: Men (the then named biannual UK industry showcasing event run by the British Fashion Council) and subsequent sales tradeshow participation in Paris. Andrew continued to refine his pattern cutting & construction skills through sampling and production outsourcing for his label, cementing this further by completing an MA in Creative Pattern Cutting in 2017. He developed his teaching practice in tandem with these studies as Associate Lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, prior to joining the team at Leeds Arts University as a Senior Lecturer in 2018.

Andrew continues to maintain and build on his links with the fashion industry; recent notable results include an educational workshop arranged for select students with the design team at Alexander McQueen HQ to a competition finalist in this year’s prestigious Golden Shears Award for tailoring. He has also assembled an archive of creative cut garments and iconic menswear pieces, utilising these to aid teaching and further enhance the student learning experience.

Andrew explored zero-waste pattern cutting whilst studying for his Masters, where he also developed digital methodologies for producing large scale zero-waste patterns when completing its Final Major Project. His project work also investigated historical examples of zero-waste garments, such as 17th Century fine linen nightshirts, sourced and examined in detail at The Clothworkers' Centre, the V&A museum’s substantial research archive. The understanding of their construction through close study and replication drove the design process for his resulting Masters collection and this methodology forms the basis of Andrew’s research work, in addition to informing his teaching practice here at Leeds Arts University.
