Heather Sprowson graduated from our BA (Hons) Fashion Design course in 2024, and went straight into the role of Assistant Menswear Designer at Next.

Heather’s graduate collection was very successful at Graduate Fashion Week 2024, winning the GFW Fashion Portfolio Award. Heather was invited to interview for Next’s 12-month graduate scheme for both menswear and womenswear, but was offered a permanent role as an Assistant Designer instead.

"Leeds Arts University is such a great collaborative environment to be in, working alongside likeminded creatives definitely inspires you and it's great to bounce ideas off each other. Working with other courses such as Fashion Photography to bring your designs to life is great, and also being able to use all the amazing facilities. That is one thing that I don't think you appreciate enough until you leave. It was great to be able to experiment with screen print as well as using the 3D workshops and experimenting with laser etching onto denim for my graduate collection. It is something not all universities have and I think it really helped to push my ideas."

Heather continued; "Leeds Arts University definitely provided me with lots of opportunities to showcase my work to a wider audience, outside of the university, encouraging entering into competitions like Graduate Fashion Week, and the Fida Illustration Awards, of which I did in both second and third year, and made the long list for both my illustrations. As well as live briefs, these were great experiences at what it's like to design for someone else and learn how to work to a brief."

Heather is currently working on Next's AW25 season and has returned from a research trip to Amsterdam where she attended the denim trade show, Kingpins. Heather is designing across two teams that are working on the casual trousers and denim line, and the outerwear and shorts line.
