Katie Mcilroy is a British and New-Zealand dual national creative based in Oslo, Norway. Katie graduated from BA (Hons) Creative Writing in 2024 and is currently in the research and ideas stage of writing her next play. Katie is a theatremaker and writer who is interested in site-specific theatre experiences. During her time as a student, Katie wrote and produced her first site-specific play, ‘Fully Furnished’, in her student house which explored immersive-styled performance.

"Leeds Arts University supported me by being a safe space to come and figure things out for myself. Having access to other writers who have a genuine passion and respect for the craft of writing has been so important. I've enjoyed the privilege of having a crit-group every week that not only gave advice on my work, but also just talked about the phenomenon that is creative writing. Some of my classmates and I have continued this tradition even after graduating, which I would encourage all writers to do. Community is so essential to having new perspectives and becoming a better artist."

Katie continued; “Having a library that would order in books that I requested, being able to use workshops to experiment with physically making things, being in close physical proximity to other students who I could swap skills with. The resources at our University are really amazing and I hope that more Creative Writing students feel empowered to make use of everything that is available to them. Be curious! Try that crazy idea!
