Laura Slater is part time lecturer on BA (Hons) Textiles Design.

Working in industry since graduating from the Royal College of Art in 2007, Laura’s experience includes the development and creative direction of her own design brand along side a variety of educational roles within range of settings from universities and colleges to national galleries.

Professional clients and project collaborators, include Heals, John Lewis, The Hepworth Wakefield, Harvey Nichols, Material Lab, Yorkshire Sculpture Park, Johnston Tiles, Wrap Magazine, Le Bon Marche (Paris), and Fraser Muggeridge Studio. Laura regularly exhibits in both the UK and Europe including London Design Festival, Design Junction, Tent London, Top Drawer, and Maison & Objet.

Laura’s design practice and academic research is occupied with the importance of, and engagement we have with pattern and its ability to connect us with the environments and objects we surround ourselves with. How can we use colour, shape and surface as a means to explore ideas around experience and relationship with place? Laura’s work is almost always applied to interior space and product.

Process is integral to her design practice. Experimental approaches to drawing, print and mark making, Laura often employs collage to create pattern and surface directly on cloth through traditional screen printing techniques. Contemplating colour and its directional use is fundamental to evolving research and design realisation.

Laura currently works across Level 5 & 6.
