Philip is Course Leader for the BA (Hons) Photography and MA Photography courses, and has worked in photographic education for 15 years in a range of FE and HE institutions.

He has delivered academic papers at Format International Photography Festival Conference in Derby, and at the 4th International Photography and Theory Conference in Cyprus, based on art photography, the networked image and the creative intention of office pranks.

He has exhibited and published photographic work nationally and internationally and was recently selected to exhibit at Format International Photography Festival 2019. Philip’s photographic work fits into a narrative that he has been exploring for ten years in various forms, that incorporates notions of labour, creativity, boredom, resistance and productivity to critique our relationship with daily working lives. He is active in building photographic communities in Leeds including curating exhibitions, organising talks, chairing discussion panels and publishing photobooks.

Philip started out as a music photographer and also a musician. This has included having photographs published in the NME and Melody Maker, performing at a music festival in Texas, playing improvised sets with the singer from CAN and recording a Peel Session, a performance that John Peel described as “making his teeth hurt”. Now he is older he favours a quieter life and photographic subjects that don't move around as much.
