Alumni Unplugged speakers offer internship to Graphic Design student

BA (Hons) Graphic Design

BA (Hons) Graphic Design graduates, Zak Lebetkin and Michael Matchett of Creative Kiosk, offered an internship to current BA (Hons) Graphic Design student, Emma Plews, after she impressed them with her enthusiasm and interest in the creative sector during their talk at the University as part of the new Alumni Unplugged series.

Alumni Unplugged is a talk series that gives students and fellow graduates the opportunity to hear from alumni and gain valuable insights on a range of specialist topics. During the third talk of the series, Zak and Michael spoke about their experiences working in industry after graduating in 2022 and how they went about setting up their own design agency, Creative Kiosk. The London and Belfast based design agency builds affordable digital design solutions for small to medium sized businesses.

"Emma attended our Alumni Unplugged talk at Leeds Arts University last month and really impressed us with her drive to gain industry experience. We created a tailored bootcamp to give her a feel for agency life, and she’s exceeded all expectations. We look forward to following her career in the creative industry!"

"Working with Creative Kiosk has been incredibly insightful. Zak and Mike put so much effort into making sure I got the most out of the experience by setting me briefs through an industry-standard platform and scheduling regular check-in calls for feedback and support. It really gave me a taste of how creative projects run in the real world. I also expanded my skill set while working with them - I was set a motion graphics brief, something I'd never tried before. I just needed that push to give it a go, and I ended up producing work that I'm really proud of. Their guidance throughout was so valuable, and I have learned so much from them. I'm really grateful to them for giving me the opportunity."

Alumni Unplugged affords opportunities to current students, and opportunities for graduates to mentor and support current students.

"As a newly formed agency, it’s been a great learning experience for us too. Helping a Leeds Arts University graduating student break into the industry while developing our own skills in management and leadership. It’s been a real win-win."
