Final year Photography students exhibit at East Street Arts

BA (Hons) Photography

Final year BA (Hons) Photography students took over Patrick Studios Project space at East Street Arts, Leeds, for a three day exhibition.

The exhibition, 'Level Ground', is the final-year students' interim show before their graduate showcase in June. The exhibition presented a diverse range of work, the culmination of each student’s creative journey, and included documentary work, conceptional explorations, commercial imagery and social commentary.

'Level Ground' was curated by the students, who took on roles within various teams including curation, installation and promotion. Students Alastair Murrell and Ned Threadkell acted as exhibition directors, managing and supervising the student teams working on the exhibition. Patrycja Sobczak designed the branding.

“The experience of directing an exhibition like 'Level Ground' was amazing. It was a very hands-on and educational experience for me with directing exhibitions, curation and installation being what I want to move into after graduating.”

The exhibition provided an excellent opportunity for the students to not only exhibit their work in a gallery setting, but to experience the work that goes into curating, installing and promoting an exhibition.

“This exhibition was a great opportunity to learn more about the logistics of creating an exhibition, giving us experience of curation and allowing us to further our practice. It also was useful as a motivator as seeing everyone’s work together helped us view our work within the context that we created it for.”

Ned Threadkell, BA (Hons) Photography student

The exhibition was held at East Street Arts, Leeds from 13-17 March 2025.
