Recent BA (Hons) Fine Art graduate and current Creative in Resident, Dave Moss, has created a ceramic tiled wall mural for St. George’s Crypt’s Growing Rooms rehabilitation centre in Leeds.
‘Room to Grow’ is an abstract landscape created by Dave Moss during his residency. Many of the fifty press moulded tiles were made and personalised by residents and staff from Growing Rooms, a men’s residential rehabilitation centre in Armley, Leeds.
"The size and abstract nature of the piece represents the stories and the journeys faced by the men of Growing Rooms. It has its ups and downs and uncertainties, and it is a long road from addiction to citizenship. Everyone is different, but their passage through the landscape is made stronger by sharing feelings and experiences, and being in a place where people understand and care."
The Creatives in Residence scheme at Leeds Arts University provides a platform for recent graduates to realise their ambitions to develop and work on a specific project within a secure environment. Dave used the university facilities between October 2023 to January 2024 to help professionalise his artistic practice and create the large ceramic mural which he installed at the centre in March 2024.
