Students from BA (Hons) Comic and Concept Art, BA (Hons) Graphic Design, BA (Hons) Illustration and MA Worldbuilding with Creature Design have been announced as the winners of a t-shirt design competition for alternative Leeds store Giant Kitten.
This is the third year of the annual competition, held in partnership with Giant Kitten, an independent store specialising in kitsch and quirky gifts, situated in the Corn Exchange, Leeds. The brief this year was to base a design around a slogan.
Ana Mantero Mortillaro, MA Worldbuilding with Creature Design, was the overall winner with runner up places being awarded to Caitlin Williams, Hannah Noble and Mia Maloney, BA (Hons) Comic and Concept Art, Tabitha Biddle, BA (Hons) Graphic Design, and Keavy Day, BA (Hons) Illustration.
"We were blown away by the standard of the designs students submitted this year and by how many entrants there were. It was so difficult to choose that we had to extend the number of runners-up to five and some of the Giant Kitten staff judging panel ended up wrestling in the Corn Exchange car park over what made it into the final selection. We were all in agreement though that Ana's design was absolutely fantastic! Well done to Ana and the runners-up and thank you to everyone for taking part. It's so great for us to get to know about upcoming artists and to work together with them."
The winner and runners up all received a Giant Kitten gift voucher, a free t-shirt featuring their design and will also receive commission on every one of their designs sold.
