Textile Design students celebrate wins at New Designers 2024
BA (Hons) Textile Design
Students graduating from the University’s BA (Hons) Textile Design course showcased their work at New Designers 2024.
New Designers is the UK’s leading platform for design talent, featuring the work of over 3,000 talented graduates from the UK’s leading universities. The show gives graduates the opportunity to promote their work to an audience from across the design industry at the Business Design Centre, London.
The exhibition includes the New Designers Awards, a prestigious awards programme supported by leading industry partners who reward and recognise the design stars of the future.
Three BA (Hons) Textile Design students have won awards, including:
Franki Barber won The Clothworkers’ Company Printed Textile Design Associate Prize
Robyn Jones won the Skopos Fabrics Outstanding Surface Print Design Award
Ella Spencer won the Paperchase New Designers Award
Artist, designer, educator and cultural changemaker, Simone Brewster presented the students with the awards.
Fiza Kahn was also selected as a highlight by one of event directors, Sally Bent.
‘It feels amazing for my work to be recognised by such an established company such as Skopos. I haven’t stopped smiled since receiving the award and it has gave me a boost of confidence within myself and my work. Without the fantastic print facilities and amazing team at the uni I wouldn’t have been able to be so experimental and develop my passion for screen printing. I’m incredibly grateful to the team at uni for the experience of exhibiting at New Designers and being able to network with people in the creative industry."

"It was an amazing experience getting to speak with the Paperchase team and showcase my portfolio! I am over the moon to win the Paperchase Award and can't wait to get to work designing with them! Over the three years, the course has helped me curate a diverse portfolio and allowed me to experiment with designing across a variety of markets. Getting to attend New Designers has been an incredible experience full of exciting conversations!"
