Textile Design students exhibit at Sunny Bank Mills Print Festival

BA (Hons) Textile Design

BA (Hons) Textile Design students were given the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work at the annual Sunny Bank Mills Print Festival.

The Print Festival is a celebration of printmaking, bookmaking and zines, with over 60 printmakers, studios, artists and collectives selling and exhibiting their work in the 1912 Mill over the weekend.

Students from BA (Hons) Textile Design were given a stall in the emerging talent area, where they showcased a curated selection of student work from across all three year groups.

“It was a really interesting experience as the first time showcasing and selling my work. I think these opportunities are important to teach new artists how to present and price their work and get their foot in the door.”

Millie Spencer, BA (Hons) Textile Design student

"The Sunny Bank Mills print fair was a great opportunity to experience selling work face to face. It showed me how work should be presented and packaged and was a great opportunity to create some fun one off paper mono prints."

Emma Hopewell, BA (Hons) Textile Design student

The Textile Design course specialises in print and surface design, and champions a balance between traditional print processes and innovative practices, with the exploration of printmaking as both an analogue and hybrid analogue-digital discipline, central to the ethos. The selection of work exhibited on the stall reflected this diversity of creative exploration within the course.

“It was great to have the opportunity to sell our prints on the Leeds Arts University stall both to raise a bit of cash to fund more work but also to start getting our names out there and our work out into the world”

Laura Maycroft, BA (Hons) Textile Design student

"Exhibiting my work at Sunny Bank Mills was a great experience. I got to talk to a variety of print makers which I found very inspiring, and I am now more confident in packaging, pricing and exhibiting"my work to the general public.

Sian Barratt, BA (Hons) Textile Design student

A number of alumni, including BA (Hons) Textile Design graduates Ellie Way and Ellie James, were also exhibiting as part of the festival.
