Three BA (Hons) Textile Design students have won prizes in the i-dott Surface Pattern Competition 2024.
i-dott is a charity that exists to bridge the gap between academia and industry, securing sponsorship from those in the sector to support its work. BA (Hons) Textile Design students have been taking part since it began in 2013.
Maren Paschke won first prize in the Sky's the Limit Category (nautilus), sponsored by Decoprint, Ugepa and Hohenberger. Maren also won the AVA CAD/CAM training prize.
Roisin Foster won second prize in the 1920's Re-imaged category, sponsored by Standfast & Barracks.
Natalia Firsova won second prize in the Contemporary Chinoiserie category, sponsored by John Mark.
Students were awarded cash prizes for their winning designs, and Maren Paschke also won a week’s paid training on specialist industry designing software.
"My entry, 'The Firebird Project' was a huge undertaking and I have met a few challenges along the way. It was the first time I have worked on the design 3 meter long by 2 meter wide. It feels extremely rewarding to see all the effort pay off in the end. I am very grateful to receive a recognition from industry professionals."
"Competitions like the i-dott Surface Pattern Competition provide invaluable exposure and in addition to the creative challenge, help students practise meeting deadlines and responding to specific technical criteria. We are incredibly proud of all our winning students and we hope this marks the first step in their journey into this exciting and thriving industry."
As a result of participating, i-dott will act as an agent for the winning design for the next two years, holding copyright as they offer it for sale to the industry. The proceeds of any sales will be split equally between the student and the charity.
