Visual Communication graduate invited to Downing Street

BA (Hons) Visual Communication

Recent BA (Hons) Visual Communication graduate, Katie Glover, was invited to 10 Downing Street to deliver a presentation to the government about her success on TikTok for the Royal Armouries Museum over the past seven months.

Katie is the Communications Officer at the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, whose TikTok videos starring Senior Curator of the museum, Mark Murray-Flutter, went viral sparking the "letting gen z write the marketing script" trend. They have since been nominated in the Digital Content category of the 2025 Digital Culture Awards.

Katie was approached by the Head of Digital Communications at HMRC, and the Deputy Head of Digital at 10 Downing Street via LinkedIn, and was invited to Downing Street as a guest speaker. Katie presented both in-person and online to the Home Office, the British Army, MOD, and all areas of government about how she approaches TikTok and how the Royal Armouries Museum educates viewers whilst making the content interesting and engaging for a younger audience.

"Downing Street is not as scary as I thought it was going to be. You simply go up to the number 10 door, knock, and are let in! But it was quite surreal. I was playing Gen Z scripts in front of a large picture of Margaret Thatcher to a room full of government officials – it was an interesting juxtaposition!"

Katie continued; “The response was really great. Everyone was laughing and asking some really great questions. Knowing I’d made an impact on how the general public might receive government communications was a great feeling! Plus, I got to meet Larry the Cat!”

You can view Katie’s entertaining videos via the Royal Armouries Musuem TikTok.
