I’m the Pathway Leader for Fine Art on Foundation Diploma in Art and Design and a tutor on the MA Creative Practice course. I previously studied Fine Art at Staffordshire University, a Postgraduate Diploma in Painting, Drawing and Printmaking at the Royal Academy Schools and more recently completed a Practice-led PhD from the University of Leeds.
My practice is currently focussed upon painting place with an underlying interest in the everyday, individual and community memory, the uncanny and archives. My research methods include fieldwork strategies such as walking and loitering and I record these experiences in varied ways including through observational drawing, photography, film and sound, which together help to inform my painting practice. Through this research, I seek to examine in what ways painting practices might contribute new knowledge and understandings of the familiar places we inhabit.
My professional qualifications also include a PGCE in Teaching from the University of Huddersfield. My teaching is very much informed by continued academic research and professional practice as a Fine Artist.
