Profile
Beth Land
"The freedom the Visual Communication course offers allowed me to be really experimental with my creativity, without the pressures of needing to specialise, and over the three years, I naturally gravitated towards illustration. The experimentation I engaged in during the course gave me the confidence to explore illustration through a range of mediums and helped me to market and commercialise my work. During the second year of the course, I created my own hand painted clothing brand called Dirty Laundry. For this project to be successful, I had to take on various roles, from designing and producing the garments to managing branding, social media, sales, and marketing. I gained valuable insights into the significance of branding yourself clearly and marketing your practice across online platforms."
Alongside their freelance illustration career, Beth is pursuing teaching in the higher education art and design sector, and recently developed an illustration workshop called 'Silhouette Scenarios' which focuses on generating narratives through simple character/environment interactions using card cut-outs. Beth plans to tour this workshop around universities in the North of England.
