Filmmaking student’s short screened for the BFI Film Academy

BA (Hons) Filmmaking

Final year BA (Hons) Filmmaking student George Higginbottom is part of a team of creatives whose recent film was screened by the BFI at Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds.

Directed by Anna-Marie Adair and produced by Mikey Pugh, ‘The Dispatch’ is a short film telling the story of a youngster trying to survive a delivery job gone wrong. Shot in Sheffield, the film was created by Silver Treehouse and Proofing Productions. Georges roles for this production were head gaffer (head electrician) and jib operator (camera operator).

George is also co-founder of Silver Treehouse, a team of creative filmmakers and photographers specialising in promotional content, weddings and short films.

The film was shortlisted for the BFI Film Academy Plus Showcase, a celebration of the best short films made by young Northern filmmakers. The BFI’s DIY Filmmaking Challenge asked filmmakers aged 16-25 to create no-budget, micro-short films exploring stories of freedom and creative expression in response to the theme of Action and Adventure.

“Shooting ‘The Dispatch’ was demanding and required a huge amount technical planning and attention as the turnaround for this project was very short. When we wrapped after three days of shooting, I felt a sense of pride as I was part of a crew that planned, shot and edited this film off of their own backs.”
