Filmmaking student’s work showcased in Leeds City Museum

‘Leeds Can Rap’ a short documentary film by final year BA (Hons) Filmmaking student Dylan Pilgram is being show at Leeds City Museum as part of their current exhibition A Hip Hop Journey: 50 years of Kulture.
The film was made as part of the filmmaking course’s documentary module. Dylan wanted to create a rap music documentary showcasing artists in Leeds, discussing their journeys and what it takes to succeed in the city. Working alongside Dylan on the film were: BA (Hons) Filmmaking students Adam Titley, Jack Roddie, Ibraheem Ali, Jake Whattam-Smith and Nile Winterton, with Matthew Mills, third year BA (Hons) Photography and Joseph Hattersley, final year BA (Hons) Graphic Design.
After finding out about the exhibition at Leeds City Museum, Dylan submitted his work to the curator who has included the film in the playlist shown at the entrance to the exhibition.
A Hip Hop Journey: 50 years of Kulture celebrates the 50th anniversary of the first block party and formation of hip hop kulture. Co-curated with the volunteer-run Hip Hop Historian Society, this exhibition will showcase the history of the groundbreaking movement in Leeds. The exhibition will run at Leeds City Museum until 24 March 2024.

The film took many unexpected turns along the way and none of us ever expected to be able to watch it in a public setting and know that people are enjoying it as well. It was truly a blast to create, and I'm excited for what's to come next!”
