Work by final year BA (Hons) Fashion Photography student, Aran Llewelyn Harris, went on display on billboards in London, Bristol and Cardiff as part of the Dazed Club initiative.
Dazed Club is an initiative set up by Dazed magazine to connect creatives through digital programming including online talks, newsletters, events and competitions. Dazed Club partnered with creative street advertising specialists BUILDHOLLYWOOD to host ‘Be Scene', a competition for emerging creatives to submit work which celebrated their own diverse backgrounds and creative communities which inspire them.
The work was judged by a panel including Dazed’s Fashion Director Imruh Asher, Another Man’s Editor in Chief Ellie-Grace Cumming, Photographer Sharna Osborne, BUILDHOLLYWOOD's Marketing Director Khaly Nguyen, and Dazed Club’s Creative Director Jack Sunnucks.
Aran’s work centres the historical subjugation of Wales, creating imagery that aims to reflect a pride in his Welsh culture, history, people and traditions. 'Banal Nationalism' presents a playful take on identity, with images showing an exaggerated representation of Welsh culture, alongside traditional Welsh outfits, including a Het Gymreig.
