Our courses provide exciting and challenging opportunities for students to showcase their talent by taking part in live briefs or competitions.
Throughout the year, we advertise exciting creative commissions and competitions, giving you a chance to work with external organisations, improve your portfolio and build up an understanding of what life’s like as a creative professional in the real world.
Recent briefs have included creating a mosaic for Victoria Quarter, illustrating Candlelighters new charity book, supplying artwork for MEPCs new office development, Wellington Place, and illuminating the Lifting Tower with seasonal animations as part of Leeds BIDs Christmas in Leeds.
We also encourage students to enter national and international competitions in a wide range of disciplines. Some of these are extremely prestigious and, even if you don’t win, the experience of taking part and working to a set brief can be hugely beneficial.
Whether looking for a part-time job whilst you study or full-time employment once you graduate, thanks to close ties with the industry, we advertise loads of great opportunities in the region and further afield.
It’s best to start looking early so you can get an idea of the skills and experience you will need to get your dream job and can begin to prepare. If you need any support or advice when looking or applying for a job, your Careers Guidance Consultant is on hand to help.
Taking part in one or more periods of work experience whilst you are a student could make a real difference to your learning and career prospects. Although you don’t have to undertake work experience as part of your degree, we highly recommend it. It will dramatically broaden your understanding and skills, and the experience gained can be invaluable.
The professional modules on your course give you the opportunity to research the creative industries and identify companies you’d like to approach. Employers also regularly approach the University to see if we have any students suitable to be placed with them.
