This course encompasses a range of contemporary performance disciplines, from drama for feature film and presenting for television, through to promotion and influencing on the web and through social media. You will have the opportunity to develop the skills and attributes to excel in these areas whilst studying amongst a thriving community of diverse creatives.
As a specialist arts university we have the resources and expertise to provide you with the best possible education in acting for screen. You will experience working in a film studio with access to production equipment and rehearsal space, and have the opportunity to work with experienced industry professionals, who will provide you with feedback and guidance.
You will be encouraged to gain professional practice opportunities wherever possible, through working with students on our Filmmaking course or engagement with external productions. We will support you to develop networking skills and professional contacts. Working in an environment that includes filmmakers, musicians, animators, creative writers, marketeers, fine artists, and designers across a range of disciplines will provide opportunities for exciting collaborations and creative stimulation.

Begin your journey by mastering the principles of acting and camera acting techniques. This year focuses on building your understanding of performance essentials, including movement, voice, and emotional authenticity. You will also gain foundational knowledge of the technical aspects of screen acting, such as camera awareness and scene continuity.
There are excellent opportunities to explore the practice of acting for screen at different levels of production either through collaboration with others or through self-recording. Facilities at the University range from mid-level equipment suited to social media and digital output through to a full film studio and green screen facility. Working with our filmmaking students can lead to content that uses industry-standard professional production and editing equipment including cameras, lighting and sound kits for location and studio work.
Computer suites house networks of Apple Mac computers featuring regularly updated, industry-standard software for a wide range of creative applications that support all our courses, with equipment consistent with that used in the creative workplace including mainstream video editing facilities. A purpose-built specialist library is open to all students and includes Digital Collections to enhance the learning experience as well as the University archive. Self service facilities are available throughout, supported by a dedicated and experienced team of library staff.
BA (Hons) Acting for Screen
Having acquired advanced performance and communication skills, there are a wide range of career opportunities available to graduates. You could work in the film and television industry as an actor, voice artist or presenter, or in wider areas of the creative industries, such as advertising, marketing, digital communications or public relations. Graduates may also continue to postgraduate study.
